What is Wireless Internet?
Wireless Internet service through Power Web Connect is a
high-speed broadband Internet connection capable of operating up to 100 times
fasted than the average dial up connection.
Wireless Internet service utilizes the 2.4GHz radio band. Our antennas are located on the water tower
in downtown Beaver Dam and service is provided to locations within 8 miles of
the tower with reasonable line of site.
Is this like Cable or DSL?
Wireless Internet through Power Web works similar to cable
and DSL in that it is a high speed “always on” type connection, but that is
where the similarities end. Cable and
DSL limit upload speeds, this is a full both way business-class connection. For example, if you order a 768k connection
with cable or DSL, you may get up to 768k download, but are usually limited to
64k or 128k upload. With the Power Web
wireless service you will receive 768k upload and download. Cable also is a shared connection. This means you are sharing bandwidth with
your neighbor. If someone next door to
you is playing games or downloading music, your connection suffers. DSL is limited to a range of three miles
from the local switch, our connection will go up to 8 miles and with repeaters
may be extended farther.
What do I need and what will be provided?
Power Web will send an installer to your location and
install a small antenna on the outside of your building. This antenna connects to a small radio unit
located indoors. This radio attaches to
your computer via Ethernet. You are
required to have an Ethernet adapter in your computer. If you do not have one, Power Web will
install one for you for $20. If you
would like to put more than one computer on this connection, you will require a
small router available from us or any computer supplier. This router usually runs $79. Additional charges
may apply for cables and additional adapters.

How do I know if I qualify?
Power requires reasonable line of site to the downtown
Beaver Dam water tower. This means if
you can see the tower, you most likely qualify. If there are trees between you and the tower you may still be
able to receive a signal. Power Web
Connect will do a free site survey to determine if your location qualifies for
our wireless service. Fill out the form
located here
to schedule a site survey. Once we
determine the size of the antenna and radio needed for your location, we will
email you the results to decide on an installation date.
